Annual Review of Nephrology Course - AKI, CKD, and Transplantation

30 Mar 2023 11:00 13:00
MR 111
Dwomoa Adu Chairperson Ghana
Antonello Pani Chairperson Full Professor and Director Renal UnitItaly
Sydney Tang Chairperson The University of Hong KongHong Kong, China

Session Description:
Acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease and kidney transplantation are inter-related. For AKI, the tropics are where there are peculiar etiologies that could be quite different from elsewhere. CKD is mostly caused by DKD in many parts of the world and without doubt the treatment of DKD is revolutionized by the emergence of SGLT2 inhibition. Finally, whereas transplantation offers the best rehabilitative potential in patients with kidney failure, it is particularly relevant in children whose life span could otherwise be severely compromised if they remain on life-long dialysis.

Learning Objectives:
To highlight the role of SGLT2 inhibitors in DKD and CKD. To gain an overview of kidney transplantation in children. To improve understanding about AKI in tropical countries and beyond.
