Jadranka Buturović-Ponikvar is an internist, nephrologist and Professor of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. She was born in Pula (Croatia). She graduated from the University of Belgrade Medical School (Serbia) as the best student in the class, being awarded by the Serbian Medical Association (GPA 9.93/10). She was first employed at the Center for Transplantation and Dialysis, University Medical Centre Serbia, Belgrade (1982-1988). Since1988 she has been employed at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia. She was a Head of the Department of Nephrology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. As of 2018 she is a Medical Director of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, one of the biggest hospitals in the region with more than 8500 employees. She is a Chair of the Eurotransplant Ethics Committee, a member of ERA (European Renal Association) Ethics Committee.She is a deputy chair of the ISN Interventional Nephrology Working Group and a member of the ISN Central and Eastern Europe Regional Board. Her main clinical and research interests include: hemodialysis, kidney transplantation, kidney biopsy, Doppler ultrasonography, medical ethics.
