Dr Basu Gopal is the lead transplant nephrologist at The Alfred Hospital and Associate Professor at the Monash University, Melbourne, Australia. After completing his specialty training in 2008, he progressed to serve as Professor of Nephrology at the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India before migrating to Australia in 2015.His research interests include infections in kidney transplant recipients, transplant immunology, monitoring in kidney transplantation – immune and therapeutic drug monitoring, ABO incompatible transplantation, acute kidney injury, and GFR measurement. He is a keen Nephrology educator and is an active member of the ISN Education – Social Media Education subgroup as well as member of the ISN Young Nephrologist Committee and APSN CME Committee. He has won several awards including the distinguished educator award by the Transplantation Society (2013), Emerging Economies Young Investigator Award at the XXIII International Transplantation Congress of the Transplantation Society (2010); Dr. Muthoot M. George Memorial TANKER Foundation and Kerala Kidney Foundation Research Award (2009) for the most outstanding research done by a doctor in India in the field of Nephrology. He has several publications and research presentations and awards to his credit and serves as reviewer to several international nephrology journals.
