Novel Technologies to Improve Our Understanding of AKI

Session Description:
Although currently few therapeutic interventions for human AKI, new technologies are ready to revolutionize to help to elucidate the pathophysiology, providing new opportunities for early detection and novel interventions. In this session, we will discuss new imaging techniques, -omic studies especially transcriptomics, regenerative medicine as well as optogenetics as a novel tool for understanding neural circuits with respect to the control of renal inflammation in AKI. These strategies hold tremendous promise for effective bench-to-bedside translation of novel discoveries that will change the current dismal prognosis of human AKI.

Learning Objectives:
Explore new imaging techniques in AKI. Know recent developments using human stem cells, organoids, and in silico approaches to advance personalized AKI diagnostics and therapeutics. Know unbiased gene and protein expression analyses in kidney, urine and blood, the localization of specific gene transcripts in pathological biopsy samples by rapid in-situ RNA technology and single-cell RNA-sequencing analyses. Be familiar with the neuroimmune axis in AKI.
