Dr Luyckx obtained her MD from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. She trained in Internal Medicine at University of Miami and in Nephrology at Harvard Medical School. She has an MSc in Public Health and a PhD in Biomedical Ethics. Currently working in nephrology at the University Children's Hospital in Zurich. She holds affiliate positions with the Renal Division at the Brigham and Womens Hospital, Harvard Medical School and the Department of Child Health and Paediatrics in at the University of Cape Town and has been a consultant to the WHO for the Global Health Ethics Team. Her research activities include the challenges of justice, equity and moral distress relating to resource allocation and management of non-communicable diseases in resource-limited regions. She is a member of the Advocacy Committee of the International Society of Nephrology. She contributes to international activities to strengthen local capacity in nephrology and non-communicable disease management and to improve equitable access to care globally.
