Prof. Mueller is currently the interim Head of the Clinic of Nephrology at the University Spital (USZ) in Zürich, Switzerland. He received his medical degree from the Philipps-University of Marburg in Germany. His postgraduate training included residencies in Internal Medicine, Intensive Care, and Nephrology. Dr. Mueller spent three years as a Postdoc at the Division of Nephrology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. From 2004 to 2013 Dr. Mueller had a clinical appointment as Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology and Immunology at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. During this time he was one of the principal investigators in the largest trial on the value of microarray technology for diagnostics in renal transplantation. Since 2014 he works at the University Clinic of Nephrology in Zürich. He is the Medical Director of the renal transplant program and Co-Director of the Transplant Institute. He is Co-Director of the Swiss National Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) program and Co-chair of the Declaration of Istanbul Custodian group (DICG). He has a translational research focus, predominantly in diagnostics in kidney transplantation using transcriptome approaches for immune monitoring and findings in organ rejection and injury.
