Session Description:
This session will aim to cover a number of very important aspects relating to the driving process/forces behind the AKI-to-CKD progression. Our current understanding of the pathophysiological changes occurring in those who suffer from AKI will be presented, including subsequent development of chronic kidney disease. We will explore current understanding of molecular mechanisms involved in the recovery process. The important question of whether we can halt the development of chronic kidney disease following kidney injury will be discussed with a review of current and novel therapeutic strategies.
Learning Objectives:
An appreciation of the pathophysiological changes associated with acute kidney injury. An increased understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the recovery process following acute kidney injury. An increased awareness of possible therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of chronic kidney disease following acute kidney injury.
