Since 2003, he has held the position of Professor in the Division of Nephrology at Inje University Ilsan-Paik Hospital in Korea. His primary focus is on diabetic kidney disease and the progression of kidney disease. He is recognized as a leader in the Korean Diabetic Kidney Disease (K-DKD) cohort study, which aims to identify the cause and pathogenic mechanisms of rapid DKD progression using human-derived samples. Additionally, his research includes investigating the role of complement receptor VSIG4 in kidney diseases.
