Dr. Workagegnehu Hailu completed medical school at the University of Gondar (UoG), followed by residency in Internal Medicine at Addis Ababa University and fellowship in Adult Nephrology at Narayana Health in Banglore, India. He is a consultant nephrologist and an academician with the rank of associate professor at the UoG, Ethiopia. Dr. Hailu has concurrently occupied several positions including head of the department of Internal Medicine. He established the nephrology unit at UoG and is currently the head of the nephrology and dialysis unit. He has published numerous papers. His research area includes tropical GN, CKD, AKI, and cardiovascular disease epidemiology in LMICs. He is member of the ISN-Emerging leader (2022 cohort) and ASTMH scientific program committee.Dr. Hailu received several awards for his role in teaching and patient care including the Best physician and best teacher awards from UoG, and the Ethiopian Ministry of science and higher education.
