Dr. Seema Hashmi is a Professor of Pediatric Nephrology at Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Pakistan. She holds a Fellowship in General Pediatrics and in 2006 she was awarded The ISN Salmasi scholarship, which enabled her to acquire a second fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology from The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.In 2013, Prof. Hashmi and her team were able to have Pediatric Nephrology recognized as a specialty and a local Fellowship Program was approved for the same for the first time in Pakistan. SIUT has trained over 30 pediatric nephrologists who are serving all across the country thereby alleviating the hardships of the patients and their families to travel to SIUT in Karachi seeking pediatric nephrology treatments.She established Pakistan’s first dedicated pediatric dialysis center at the SIUT which currently has over 150 children enrolled in the dialysis program.She has over 30 publications in indexed journals notably on genetic renal disease in children.
