Her research activity is in the field of immunomodulatory factors in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease, in particular lupus nephritis and the prevention of chronic kidney disease. Here the focus is on better understanding the pathogenesis to develop new therapeutic targets, development of new therapeutics as well as new biomarkers to assess disease activity and progression. In parallel, her research focuses on reducing ischemia/reperfusion injury and optimizing long-term graft survival. In addition to the knowledge gained in the mouse model, another focus of her research activities is the transfer of this knowledge to the human disease SLE and kidney transplantation.
