Professor Juliana Chan is a physician scientist specialised in diabetes and clinical pharmacology. Since 1995, she led a multidisciplinary team to establish the Hong Kong Diabetes Register accompanied by a biobank in pursuit of precision medicine. In 2007, her team designed the web-based Joint Asia Diabetes Evaluation Technology to promote data-driven personalised care and collaborative research in Asia. These programs have provided the template for a territory-wide risk assessment and management and created the population-based Hong Kong Diabetes Surveillance Database demonstrating the 50-70% decline in death rate in 2000-2016. Professor Chan has published 500 original articles and 20 book chapters. She is a committee member of several landmark studies and local research and healthcare policies related to diabetes and non-communicable diseases. She is a recipient of the American Diabetes Association Harold Rifkin Award for Distinguished International Service in the Cause of Diabetes, and she leads a Lancet Commission on Diabetes.
